Alzheimer’s Care in Palm Springs, CA with Loving Care
Many facilities attempt to care for seniors with memory issues but fail to realize that Alzheimer’s care is a specialized care requiring a clear understanding of a care plan necessary to meet the physical, psychological, emotional and medical needs of our seniors.
Loving Care began a memory care approach to elder care 7 years ago, recognizing that 85 % of our senior population would have some level of cognitive issues. Many large facilities have established memory care units within their facilities in order to avoid moving residents who require a higher level of care than their general staff is trained to handle.
Providing quality memory care requires an understanding of the 8 stages of dementia and understanding that caring for residents with Alzheimer’s requires a person based care plan. Meaning each care plan must be tailored to the residents needs depending on which stage of dementia they are experiencing. These stages range from minor cognitive issues to end stage Alzheimer’s and end of life hospice care.
This approach requires specialized staff training and an increase in staff to mange characteristics such as wandering, inability to sequence or task, and agitation or combativeness.
Our facilities are fully equipped to care for Alzheimer’s patients. Our well-trained, professional staff is up-to-date on current treatments and therapies for Alzheimer’s patients. This post will discuss top-notch Alzheimer’s care in long-term care facilities.
Safety is job #1 at Loving Care. The facilities and staff here in our Palm Springs facility are trained to care for our Alzheimer’s patients with utmost attention. We help clients remember things such as safety in the bathroom and when to come for meals. With a client to staff ratio of 3:1, each one of our residents receives personal attention. Our private rooms are well-equipped for safety and the staff is constantly updated on first-aid care, wound care, and dementia care. Our constant training makes us a standout among retirement communities in California.
First-Rate Professional Staff
Since we have such a favorable client to staff ratio, we can take care to tailor daily schedules that meet the needs of a client with Alzheimer’s in our Palm Springs locations. Since some daily activities, such as bathing or a medical appointment, can be frustrating and confusing, our staff can take the time to schedule these parts of the day for when your loved one tends to be most calm and agreeable.
Individualized Care Plans
We continually adjust and adapt for client needs. Each client’s care plan is re-evaluated every 90 days, or sooner. We make sure your loved one’s social, emotional, mental, and physical needs are taken care of – on an individual basis. Then, we evaluate the objectives for care, the person in charge of care plan implementation, and our method of evaluating progress. Every client’s needs can vary from day to day, so we strive to be flexible. We all have good days and bad days, and an Alzheimer’s patient is no different. So, for instance, if a full bathing routine seems too frustrating or difficult, we can wait a day and perhaps supplement with a sponge bath in the meantime. We seek to keep our clients who suffer with Alzheimer’s active and engaged with their community, their sense of productivity is important to everyone.
